This morning we met with Alex and Mckenzie Weis at Rooted Flower Company. They started their company about three and a half years ago and have taught themselves how to do many things over that time. McKenzie is an AHS grad and once their family moved back to the area they followed a dream and opened the flower company.
Alex is a teacher for Austin Public Schools, and also does a lot of the hands on work at the flower company. Mackenzie left her teaching job at the end of last year to fully step into Rooted Flower. It was great for students to hear about the transition and what to consider when taking the step to focus solely on your business.
They offer many opportunities to experience their location: you pick events, flower subscriptions, photography opportunities, and private events. They are unique in that you pick your own flowers and they are all locally grown right here in Austin starting in their basement!
Their advice to the students:
- Find what you need support with and study about it
- Look for mentors who can support you
- Knowing your why is critical
- What problem or question am I solving with my business
- You need to put your blinders on sometimes. You can be distracted by things around you and competition, but if you are achieving what you set out to do, that is your success.
Thank you for a fantastic visit! rootedflower_co
