Monday morning we visited Austin Utilities with Mark Nibaur. We had a fantastic tour where students saw the many areas that keep the utilities running. Austin Utilities is a community owned, non-profit company that is managed by a board elected by the community. The board helps to manage and make some decisions related to the utilities. There are many unique aspects to this building that were very fascinating to our students. The planning for the current building began in 2012 and was completed in 2016. This location allows all branches of Austin Utilities to be at one location and makes them much more efficient. It was great to hear about the way they are addressing language barriers in the community from working with the Welcome Center to get messaging translated, to Google translate, and continuing to work to further meet the needs of all. Students were very impressed with the facilities!
