This morning we met with McFarland Truck Lines. Geoff Baker has been with the CEO program since the very start and always provides a fantastic visit!

He shared that their company has been very focused on the following:
1. Grow smartly - you don’t want to grow too fast or to shrink in your business.
2. Maintaining safety with their trucks and drivers, while continuing to monitor and improve.
3. McFarland continues to work to reduce pollution and fuel economy. They have improved their trucks to the point that the exhaust exiting is cleaner than the air going in and the EPA has recognized them for improving air quality.
4. Dealing with the global supply chain crisis on a regular basis.

Geoff showed the various ways they can track the routes and monitor trucks while they are on the road, showed the many features of the trucks, and gave us a great picture of what the trucking business does for our economy.

Geoff’s personal advice to the students:
- Write things down and don’t procrastinate
- Never turn down a chance to learn something
- Do not give away a product or service for free
- Choose suppliers carefully and stick with them
- Pay attention to the community you live and work in
- Find the one thing that you do better than anyone else

This was our very first visit and the students did a fabulous job! Austin Public Schools Pacelli Catholic Schools
