Today we met with Geoff Baker at McFarland Truck Lines. Geoff has a great amount of knowledge and advice to offer our students! The CEO students asked many great questions and learned so much from Geoff. Students learned that McFarland’s success is connected to various factors including: having safe drivers on the road, reducing their pollution and improving fuel economy, decreasing maintenance costs, managing cargo, and positively managing drivers. He shared that their company is recognized by EPA for their efforts in pollution control. It was interesting to see the technologies they have that allow them to analyze their routes and trucks in order to be best in pollution control and efficiency.

His advice included:

1. Write things down and don’t procrastinate.
2. Never turn down a chance to learn something.
3. Don’t give away a product or service for free.
4. Choose suppliers carefully and stick with them.
5. Facts are more valuable than opinions.
6. Pay attention to the community you live and work in.
7. find the one thing you do better than anybody else.

Thanks to Geoff Baker for another excellent visit with our students. Geoff always has great insights, but takes the time to provide advice that will help our students grow individually as well. We appreciate Geoff sharing his knowledge and supporting this program as an investor and board member!
