Today we visited with Mike Tapp from Tecstra. Mike attended Luther College. He worked on a farm near Austin and eventually came into the role at Tecstra. He started as an employee and now is the owner of the company. Tecstra supports many companies with their webpage and technology needs. When they started the company, printingtips.com was created and then leased to other major companies. Through all of this they eventually started their own recipe tips webpage. They host the page, sell ad space, and work with their programming to make sure they get first page hits on Google in order to drive the number of visits to their page. Over time they have grown with technology and are now a service through Amazon Alexa with their recipe tips. They manage Hormel Foods webpages as well as some other small companies. Mike shared a lot about how the internet works and tracks customers. The students had lots of questions about this and how it impacts business and them personally. Mike shared that you have to work hard when owning a business. He acknowledged that you have to put in long hours and work extra days sometimes, but it pays off. He talked about the reason he invests in CEO being that he needed help when he started and he wants to help others. Additionally he talked about how he believes in the program and knows it is something he would have wanted to do when he was in school. Mike we thank you so much for your time and commitment to this program! Austin Public SchoolsPacelli Catholic Schools
